North Yorkshire Police are warning that fraudsters are sending out 'phishing' emails that claim to be from the Government's upcoming Covid Test & Trace service.  The email tells the recipient that he/she has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and instructs them to click on a link in order to find out who that person is.  They are also warned that failure to do so within 24 hours may result in legal action and the suspension of their benefits.  The message comes from alert@nhs-trackandtrace233-gov.com and is a fake.  Some of the people scammed so far have been asked to pay up to £500 for a test to be administered - the real test and trace service is free of charge.

If NHS tracers need to contact you they will do so by phone and never by email or in person.  Don't be caught out!
